Taking a Break to Watch the Oscars

When you work in media, especially covering celebrities and fashion, it’s rare to get Oscar night off. So while I was taking notes on fashion and beauty trends on the red carpet, this was the first year in ages when I actually got to go relax and have fun at an Oscar watch party! I went to the Soho House (which officially opens in West Hollywood today) to the Mercedes Benz-hosted event. I picked up my gorgeous guest in a dangerously fast Mercedes SLK convertible (hey, when in Rome, right?) and we drove along Sunset Blvd. (passing Larry Flynt in a Bentley with “Hustler” plates) to the spot where Beverly Hills meets West Hollywood. We toured the club, which has the two top floors of the 9200 Sunset building, admiring the spectacular views of the city beyond. We nabbed a divine spot on one of the big sofas to enjoy the view as well as the show. While guests sipped on free-flowing Moet (and everything else under the sun), we all noshed on veggie chips, shrimp cocktail, sliders, lamb chops, petit-fours and caramel corn. The crowd, like me, was pro-Kathryn Bigelow, so we were all jubilant at the Hurt Locker wins. (My guest, who works in the biz, amused me with his insider info about which studios would be happy by which wins – all very interesting…) The night ended somewhat early for me, because alas, at the end of the day I do have this job that requires late nights analyzing fashion. But it was so so lovely to have a little taste of fun!
