Aside from chatting with the actors and actresses, I wanted to see the fashion and the beauty–because you don’t get a carpet (this one was black rather than red) full of such pretty young things this often! Here were the major fashion and beauty trends from the Eclipse black carpet:

SHORT. And I mean short. Elizabeth Reaser’s Zuhair Murad dress barely fell below her toosh. Kristen Stewart also went short in one-sleeve Elie Saab (and looked fantastic). Model Marissa Miller showed some leg in a custom-made Anna Sui dress, and it was all about short Marchesa for Julia Jones, Nikki Reed and Anna Kendrick.

BEST DRESSED It was a toss up between Julia Jones (in Marchesa) and Bryce Dallas Howard (in Dior). Julia said, “I chose the dress for the color and the cut. It’s like wearing art.” And Bryce explained her choice, “It’s summer and I wanted to wear something that was like lemonade.”

LIPS Bryce also made a statement with her bright fuchsia lips that looked amazing with her pale skin and red hair and made her eyes pop that much more. Jennie Garth went for a bold orange-y red lip. But the rest were very neutral: Nikki Reed wore a soft pink, Anna Kendrick, Lilly Collins, Ashley Greene and AnnaLynne McCord all went with nude lips.

BLACK Between the Kardashians all in black, Elizabeth Reaser, Christian Serratos (who plays Angela) in one-of-a-kind Dolce & Gabbana, it was black on the black carpet. Who wasn’t in black? Robert Pattinson, who said he wanted to mix it up by wearing a rust colored suit.

PLATFORMS Everyone was in closed-toe platforms, usually in the form of Christian Louboutins. Kristen Stewart told me hers were killing her and she wasn’t sure how long she could make it in them.

FAUX PAS. My two “what were they thinking” awards go to Evan Lysacek, who wore WAY too much bling for one man (watch, diamond ring, lapel, necklace) and Jennifer Love Hewitt, who wore rainbow-colored strands in her hair. J-Love: you are 31 years old. Enough.

He talked a bit about upcoming projects other than Water for Elephants, including Bel Ami: “It’s about a broke ex-soldier and he has no drive, he’s just jealous of everything. It’s like kids these days–everyone’s entitled. He’s completely talentless. He finds this guy in the army in a brothel. And he seduces all these women and ends up screwing over the entire society. It was really fun–it’s a completely amoral character. It’s about how the shits can win sometimes.”

RPatz fans know that he’s a musician (guitar, piano, composing) and had two songs on the Twilight soundtrack. Does he still find time to play? “I’ve always been playing around. As for the soundtracks, it was nice to be involved in the first one and I just saw Twilight on TV for the first time” – that’s right, he’d never seen the movie before! – “and my song came on and it’s so bizarre that I have a song in the movie. I’m amazed Catherine [Hardwicke, the director] did it.”

Does Robert own a car? Nope. “I don’t have a car. I drive rental cars.”

(Got it–I’ll keep an eye out for a Hertz outside to pick me up for our date!)

I can only imagine the challenge of going from shooting playing a Parisian paramour in Bel Ami (Rob’s current project) and then morphing back into Edward Cullen for a day. But we think this young actor has proven his acting chops and will transition just fine.

Eclipse hits theaters in just over two months, on June 30th.

Personally, Eclipse was my least favorite of the books — I mean, Bella’s waaaay too dependent on her man and at some points just seems to be settling to appease everyone. She’s way too obsessed. Maybe she should go travel around Europe for a year, stop in Amsterdam, experience life outside Phoenix and Forks for a second. Obsessive/dependent girl = not hot. BUT that being said, I’m still a Twilight fan and look forward to seeing the third installment.

Tyler and Ally

Yes, a resounding yes.

Sometimes it’s nice to live under a rock, as I sometimes do. I haven’t read anything about the movie Remember Me. I saw some stalkarazzi photos of Robert Pattinson from the set and a few previews, which didn’t leave me clamoring for more, so I went into the screening room expecting about as much as I expect from a red vine…and I have to say, I was treated with a hot fudge sundae instead. Director Allen Coulter schooled me. It turns out Mr. Pattinson can really act, and I preferred him more here as Tyler Hawkins than as brooding Edward Cullen. (Gasp!) Plus, the story in this drama is really beautiful – I laughed, I cried, I related, I loved.

I am hesitant to give too much of the plot away –it’ll be all over the Internet undoubtedly, but I don’t like to be a big spoiler…ok, so I’ll make the last paragraph a wee spoiler for those who really want to know a little more. But for those who want to experience this flick for themselves, here are some things to know:

Tyler and Caroline

The story begins in 1991 and there’s an immediate sense of imminent danger as the Twin Towers loom in the background. The first five seconds of this movie are startling – DO NOT show up late. (This same feeling of looming tragedy shows up again, prodded on by the music and pace of the film.) Basically the story follows Tyler, a guy who’s “a bit lost” (in Robert’s words), who gets in the middle of a brawl, gets busted by a cop and decides to date the cop’s daughter in revenge. They fall in love, she has issues with her dad; coincidentally he has issues with his ga-millionaire dad; and they’ve both experienced tragedy, which has marked them (literally in Tyler’s case). Tyler lives with his best friend in a crappy apartment, goes to a coffee shop near Wall Street to write to his brother almost daily and works at the Strand bookstore while taking classes at NYU. Spun throughout are familial relationships – between siblings and children/parents. The relationship between Tyler and his younger sister Caroline (played by Ruby Jerins) is as real as it is precious—it makes you want to adopt a little sister for a week. “Ruby has something about her that is really easy to play off,” says Robert of his young co-star. “It’s quite nice being in a scene where you can just watch someone and be completely unaware that you’re in a scene.” Between the playful exchanges and the budding romance between Tyler and Emilie’s character, Ally, there is plenty of tension, but it moves.

The acting is stellar, and not just from Robert. Ruby is phenomenal – she’s also in Shutter Island so this pint-size actor is bringing in box-office bucks this month. And then there’s Pierce Brosnan, who has redeemed himself after the MMI (Mama Mia Incident—man that was awkward). But back to Robert. His American accent is flawless; he only broods once (phew); the boy looks good, but you don’t get lost in his cuteness—you’re absorbed more in his feelings; but I think I would’ve looked better in bed with him than pixie-sized Emilie de Ravin (woah, save it for the diary gurl.) He has proved his acting chops in this film, making him a bonafide bankable star. Every script for a young 20-something will now go to him before making the rounds to Zac Efron and Joseph Gordon Levitt.

Summit Entertainment (also the company behind The Hurt Locker and the Twilight movies) will bring in some money for this one (as will executive producer Robert Pattinson), as it/he should. It’s a touching story that delves into family drama, living in New York in 1991 and 2001 and is a searing reminder that life is so much better if you live it happily and lovingly, rather than angry and sour. Co-worker Lauren said she didn’t think her boyfriend would want to see it, but I told her quickly that it’s not a chick flick—guys will like this equally as well as gals.

I won’t divulge the ending, but this movie takes place in N.Y.C. in the summer of 2001. And we all know what happens at the end of summer that year…that plays an integral role. It’s hard to watch. Very hard. Bring Kleenex.

So where does Kristen Stewart fit in? She’s the girl who has never really been loved in her life, and is constantly getting rejected by men. When the opportunity arises for her to get away

and go for a ride with Gordy (Eddie Redmayne) she decides to take a chance. At first I wasn’t sold on her character either, she seemed moody and oddly attracted to Brett (is there something in this water in this Louisiana town?) But I began to like her as soon as Brett made it clear that he was more of a father figure, which is exactly what she really needed. Watching her relationship with Gordy develop shows how sometimes we are put in unexpected situations in our lives that shape us into the people we are meant to be.

The press conference at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills helped to open my eyes about the intricacies of the cast and creators of the film. For example, Kristen auditioned for this part before any of her Twilight success when she was only 16 (she’ll be 20 in April). Director Udayan Prasad said that although she was incredibly nervous when she auditioned, she also had “something very focused about her, very centered and she knew herself in a way that was actually quite intimidating.” In the interview, Kristen was relaxed and laid-back wearing a Market Milla Boyfriend tee which was paired with her very greasy hair… maybe she’s taking hair care tips from boyfriend and Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson? Yet she was likable and honest and seemed particularly honored to work with William Hurt.

This film isn’t a traditional Hollywood movie, but an indie film worth seeing that will take you on a road-trip through Louisiana right after Hurricane Katrina with characters you really grow to care about.

“You are all completely insane,” Robert Pattinson joked when asked what he thought about these hard-core fans who slept in tents on the sidewalks of Westwood, CA.

The stars’ arrivals were staggered, with Rob, Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart arriving last, but each walking the red carpet separately. They posed for photographers, did radio and TV interviews, talked to print journalists and then signed dozens of autographs and took tons of photos with the screaming, hysterical fans.

Kristen Arrives

Robert looked H.O.T. in a navy suit and typical disheveled hair.  Kristen said she decided to mix it up and wear a gown for the first time (she chose Oscar de la Renta). Unfortunately the dress didn’t photograph as well as it looked in person. And I wasn’t a huge fan of her mullet. But hey, she’s still cute.

Peter Facinelli, who arrived with wife Jennie Garth (in David Meister), was very excited to share the vampire app on his iPhone: “You can actually transform your friends into vampires — I’m so addicted to it,” he said.

Many of the cast’s friends came out to support them, including Pattinson’s Remember Me co-star Emilie de Ravin and Stewart’s The Runaways co-star Stella Maeve. Other star fans included Emma Roberts, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Julianne Hough.

Fiddy

50 Cent dropped by. As did Joan Jett. And Richie Sambora. (Uh, music to my ears?)

Nikki

Nikki Reed is gorgeous and said she now sees familiar faces in the crowd of fans.  “There’s only a select group of people who make Nikki posters — everyone makes Edward posters,” the actress, who plays Rosalie Cullen, said. She wore a beautiful blue Burberry dress and Christian Louboutin shoes. She said, “It’s depressing that I always wear black and I feel much happier and lighter in my life, and I know it’s a cliche that my wardrobe reflects that, but why not!?” She said she went hiking earlier in the day too.

Jasper, a.k.a. Jackson Rathbone, equally loves acting and music. His band 100 Monkeys is about to release an album called grape and plan a 100-city tour. How does he fit it all in? “I don’t sleep,” he said, spoken as a true Vampire.

Dakota Fanning wore some crazy-high heels and a very cool cut-out dress.

Kellan Lutz chose a couple of fans from the crowd to come inside the Mann theater to watch the movie. He also complimented my jacket.

Ashley

Ravishing in red, Ashley Greene explained why she names Audrey Hepburn as her idol: “She was very influential and very iconic. She was very involved in humanitarian issues. She used her power for the better and didn’t just sit in the limelight and do nothing. And she happens to be one of the most beautiful and fabulous women ever.”

Girls were brought to tears when Robert Pattinson signed autographs and took photos. If there’s anything to take away from this evening, it’s that the actors in this film are remarkably appreciative of the people who support them and do it with admirable humility.

Michael Sheen explained how he chooses the movies he does: “I want to do things that I want to go see as well and I would definitely be coming to see this.” He brought his daughter along with him. “Tonight is mainly about coming with my daughter. For one night I’m a great dad, then I’ll go back to being a crap dad.”

Best dress goes to Anna Kendrick in her sparkly number.

“I’m picky about absolutely everything,” Robert said. He tried to answer as many questions as he could and sign as many autographs as possible. Part of his charm is how incredibly awkward he is on the red carpet – he’s not cocky…and that just ups his allure.

My favorite moment: Rob arrived earlier than Kristen, so he was doing interviews at one end of the carpet when she arrived. The MC (yes, there was an MC, which is NOT normal at a premiere) announced Kristen’s arrival and Rob stopped mid-sentence and looked down at the end toward her. It was a sweet little moment where a guy heard his gal’s name. And then it was back to business.
