Thursday, June 10th, 2010

by Jessica Chang

Need an excuse to go shopping?

Kara Lusardi, designer of bobi Clothing, is giving you one! From 7pm to 9pm Wednesday, June 23, Kara will be hosting bobi’s “Sample Sale For a Cause,” where you can buy bobi samples for $20 to $25 while enjoying free cocktails and a bobi gift if you’re one of the first 100 people to arrive, and dancing to music from DJs Josh Madden (brother to Benji and Joel) and Claudine De Sola.

No need to feel guilty about handing over that cash either; all proceeds from the event will be donated to Keep a Child Alive, whose advocates like Bono, Alicia Keys and Lenny Kravitz are dedicated to providing treatment, care and support to children and families affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa and India.

So head on over to Revolve Clothing (8452 Melrose Ave.) where celebs like Sophie Monk will be shopping Kara’s simple and comfortable collection of fashionable women’s wear for a righteous cause.

Music and Charity: Get Your Tickets Now

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

I just heard about an amazing event coming up that combines two of my passions: music and charity. The event is an Evening with Grammy Legends Jimmy Webb and Thelma Houston, held at the Grammy Museum in L.A. For the first time in 40 years, these two celebrated artists will perform together! (For those of you who aren’t familiar with these artists, read up on their amazing contributions to music—read about Jimmy here and Thelma here.)

The best part of this event is that all proceeds from the evening support MacArthur Park, a venue for free music and performing arts that has held 130 concerts with more than 85,000 people in attendance! The venue serves to reach audiences that may otherwise not get to partake in amazing music.

The event, produced by the Friends of Levitt foundation is producing the event, which takes place Friday, May 21 and will include a reception by Wolfgang Puck, 90 minutes of performances by the stars and a dessert reception following.

If you’re looking for a glamorous night out, where you can see two legends on stage at a beautiful venue AND feel good about supporting an amazing organization, then I highly suggest you grab a ticket while you can!

Gaga for MAC’s New Lipsticks

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

I love Lady Gaga…Everything from her crazy fashions to her music that plays on repeat on my iTunes before a night out. So imagine my excitement when I found out that MAC is bringing a little gaga to my life with their new Viva Glam Gaga lipstick in that perfect nude pink shade. But if 80s favorite Cyndi Lauper is a little more your style, then try the new Viva Glam Cyndi lipstick for the perfect 80s revival.  These new lipsticks are part of the “From Our Lips” campaign which donates 100% of the selling cost from Gaga and Cyndi to the MAC AIDS Fund.

MAC Cosmetics started their AIDS fund in 1994 to support men, women and children affected by HIV/AIDS globally. So far, the fund has raised over $150 million in 67 different countries through the exclusive sale of VIVA GLAM Lipstick and Lipglass. So be one of the girls who just wants to have fun AND support an awesome cause.

Hope for Haiti Now Benefit Breaks Records

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

If you tuned in and gave on Friday night to the Hope for Haiti Now Benefit Telethon, you should feel good today. Word is the telethon broke records, beating out any telethon ever– to raise $ 57 Million so far for relief for the ravaged country. That’s even excluding the money brought in for the performances available on iTunes. That sure does offer a small bit of hope– but it’s far from over– and of course, all major organizations are still welcoming your donations. Please continue to help here.

Ways to Send Aid to Haiti

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

In the wake of the Haitian earthquake, it’s hard to find many positives, but one is the way that people are donating in droves. (Time, money, blood.) If you’re looking for an outlet to donate to, I have a few suggestions.

Kid Dangerous T-Shirt

The State Department has set up a donation-by-text system. Text “Haiti” to 90999 and $10 will immediately be donated to the Red Cross to help with relief efforts. You will see the additional charge on your cell phone bill. The Red Cross (now, as always) can use donations that will be used effectively for medical assistance. Click here for details on how to give through the website.

Also, L.A.-based T-Shirt line, Kid Dangerous Grime Couture, designed the “HELP HAITI” tee, with 100% of proceeds going to the One Dome At A Time Emergency Fund. The price has been discounted to $35 in hopes of selling more. T-shirts are available for pre-order on the Kid Dangerous website and will be available for delivery by January 22nd.

Season of Giving 1

Friday, November 13th, 2009

snowHappy Holidays, Everyone!
This is our first Holiday Charity post of the season.  We’ll be doing this all season long to remind ourselves and others  of all of the people who are suffering and going without during the holidays. If there’s someone in need whom you’re thinking of as well, or if there’s a cause you’d like us to highlight, please post comments below.

jeff beatriceThe first cause is the Beatrice Family in Newton, Mass. You can read more about their plight here . The quick summary: Jeff Beatrice, 49, was a father to eleven kids when he suddenly died of a heart attack on October 23rd, under the stress of losing his mother in a fire, caring for his brother in assisted living, and a huge economic weight on his back. His death has left his family not only totally bereaved, but utterly broke. His widow, Elinor, and their children will lose their house in the new year if the family can’t buy it back from the financial firm which holds their mortgage: right now that figure stands at $300k. If they can’t raise the money, the house will be auctioned off January 5th, and Elinor an dher children will risk being being separated. Jeff was a beloved figure in the town, and a soccer coach to many kids in the community. The Beatrices  are in our hearts during this holiday season.  For more information, please read below.
