Must See Movie: The Blind Side

family photoI think I’ve done it! I think I’ve found the perfect family movie that everyone will actually love and the timing couldn’t be more perfect since everyone has a long Thanksgiving weekend ahead of them. I was lucky enough to see an advance screening of The Blind Side, ya know, the football movie with Sandra Bullock? I’ll be honest, I was skeptical, I almost didn’t show up! I don’t know if it was all the Southern nuances that I miss from home since living in LA, but I truly enjoyed every moment in that theater.

The Blind Side, based on Michael Lewis’ 2006 book, The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game, is funny, hopeful and heart-warming film that follows the true story of Michael Oher, a young, homeless African-American boy who makes it out of the Memphis projects and into the first round draft of the 2009 NFL thanks to the white, upper-class Tuohy family.

The story is so remarkable—to see someone like Oher persevere and overcome so much adversity and to know this family dedicated themselves to making his life better, it’s truly remarkable. There were cheesy moments, but come on, it wouldn’t be the holidays without some cheese. And cheese that makes you laugh and cry in the same instant, well, that’s some good cheese! However, it reminds you that when you open up your heart amazing things can happen and at the very least, thankful.

This movie is perfect for everyone in the family—there is no bad language, but the dialogue is still sharp and witty; you’ll adore at least one of the characters if not all of them; and you will be laughing or smiling throughout the entire movie.
