Jimmy Choo for H&M

This weekend, the Jimmy Choo for H&M fashion line debuted at the discount retailer. So I headed to the store in Sunset Plaza in West Hollywood to check out the clothes and shoes. I braced myself as I approached, spotting the line that extended down the block.

But I wasn’t unprepared — I did my homework; Here are the pieces that I had my eye on:

Jimmy Choo for H&MA one-shoulder sheath dress

A zebra-print clutch

Hot red heeled sandals ($129)

(These pieces would make a great outfit for going out, or for Serena van der Woodsen on a Tuesday afternoon.)

I ended up getting none of it. This is not atypical of me: I’m a picky shopper…more than anything I wanted to just check it out. I’ll be honest, I’d rather have the Made in Italy real Choo than the Made in China H&M version. (Feel free to disagree with me!)

If you don’t have an H&M near you or missed the clothes before they all sold out, check ebay.com, where the fashions are already selling like mad! Or just save up for the real deal.

Speaking of queuing up…I drove to Trader Joe’s in Westwood this morning and was shocked to see the streets lined with tents, where people had slept overnight! Tomorrow the Twilight Saga: New Moon premiere is at the Mann theater and already these fans have come out to get a glimpse of Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner. Talk about dedication. (I’ll be covering it and now I’m anxious about how early I should go to find parking!)

So, this is just the marketing gal in me pondering things here… (I recently had a rather lengthy conversation with my fiancee about this new line of Jimmy Choo at H&M, actually! ha ha, OH the things I make him talk about with me.) But, I can’t help but wonder if by offering their line under the EXACT SAME name ‘Jimmy Choo’ at a lower-priced store, is it stretching their brand too thin and detracting from their higher-end lines / stores? (just like you said, Meg – I would FAR rather have the made-in-Italy for more $$ – it just is more authentic and what their brand is ABOUT, in my opinion.) I know other designers have done this (Isaac Mizrahi for Target, for example) – has it worked for them? I just feel like it’s an odd thing to do… don’t get me wrong, momma likes a bargain! But, it seems a little strange to essentially cheapen your brand. It’s like a lot of car companies have done – sure, I could buy the V-6 Ferrari made in Korea for less $$ (if they ever dared to make one!), but then would it even BE a Ferrari?? Just sayin’.
