Have you ever walked into a department store to get your makeup done, only to look in the mirror after and see a version of Lady Gaga staring back at you? After these experiences I am always wary to approach certain makeup counters. But when I found out that Clinique and Teen Vogue were sponsoring the Clinique Fresh Faces tour complete with professional makeup application, I felt more at ease. Clinique is a brand that has been around since 1968 and used to be prescribed by doctor’s, so I felt safe in their reliable hands.
I was first escorted up to the individual makeup stations complete with vanity mirrors and had a consultation to determine my skin type and skin tone. After that, I had the opportunity to choose between a day and night look while my amazing makeup artist, Jennifer Garcia, primed my skin with Clinique’s 3-Step Skin Care System. Next, she made my eyes pop by using Quick Eyes Cream Shadow in Rock Violet and Color Surge Eye Shadow Duo in Beach Plum. My favorite part was how she added a subtle dose of shadow under my lower lash line, which she later finished with Quickliner for Eyes in Violet. She finished my eyes with Naturally Glossy Mascara, and dusted Soft-Pressed Powder in New Clover blush on my cheeks, which happens to be Clinique’s oldest and best-loved shade. Finally, she lined my lips in Quickliner in Sky Violet and finished with a collagen gloss, Full Potential Lips Plump and Shine in SugarPlum that did not sting at all, like so many glosses do.
When I looked in the mirror, I was happy to see an enhanced version of myself looking back. I was then escorted over to hair, where I had my layers defined and fluffed. The final stage of the event was to get my picture taken by a professional photographer, while I was left pondering who I could call for a lunch date.
After my time in the beauty chairs, I sat down with Paula Patton, a Regional Education Executive for Clinique who let me in on some upcoming trends. She suggests bringing focus to the eyes with a deep eye, preferably in violet or rose, mixed with charcoal, pairing it with a soft glossy lip and a naturally flushed cheek. Patton’s current must-have is the Vitamin-C Lip Smoothie in Pink Me Up, which creates a perfect shiny lip complete with antioxidant protection and leaves lips smooth and moisturized.
