Favorite Fashion Week Hair & Makeup Looks

Until there’s New York Beauty Week, us in the hair and makeup world have to piggy-back on fashion week for our latest trend fix. So far this week, Derek Lam gets my vote for most interesting look. The big pinned-up curls are romantic and fun (and pretty easy to recreate – just use a large-barrel curling iron to curl the entire head, then pin up the curls with bobby pins). But the eyes have it with this look – the purple and green remind me of a flirty peacock showing his feathers to lure a mate. Sure, I’d like to look alluring if I did this, but chances are, if I tried to make this work, I may look like I bumped into the wrong girl at a bar and got punched. But what I would try is lining my eyes with green on the bottom and purple on the top, with a subtle gold or nude shadow on my lid. Makeup artist extraordinaire Tom Pecheux used NARS Red Square Velvet Matte Lip Pencil topped with NARS Easy Lover Lip Gloss (new for Spring 2010) for this pretty, punch pout.

Marc JacobsMy WTF moment so far goes to Marc Jacobs and the weirdness there: powdered white faces, penciled-on black brows and top-o’-the-head buns. It’s a little kabuki, a little Renaissance and a little not-gonna-wear-it. If I were going to try to adapt this look, I’d look myself in the mirror and say, Stop. Let’s just chalk this one up to Mr. Jacobs’ theatrics and not try to adapt it for the rest of us.
