The holidays are one of the simultaneously most looked forward to and most dreaded times of the year. They can be a fabulous time spent with family and friends in one’s hometown, or another excuse for your relatives to ask why you aren’t bringing a nice young man home for the holidays. What you wear is crucial in these times so take a little fashion advice to show them that you are just fine without a ring on your finger and will work doubly well for hitting the bar after and running into old high school flames.
Banana Republic Top
Probably one of my favorite items in my closet is my pencil skirt because it is incredibly flattering and versatile. The pairings are endless and it is the perfect piece to take you from day to night. Stay conservative with the family and tuck in a tank top with a belted boyfriend sweater over top. For a dressier look, tuck in a high necked blouse like Banana Republic’s Silk rose blouse in Autumn burgundy.
Tibi top
If jeans are acceptable at your holiday soirée, pair a tight black pair with a top like Tibi’s Beaded Silk Charmeuse Tunic and some killer heels. You’ll look put together enough to go out after, but the top is high enough so you won’t have to listen to your Grandma scolding you for showing cleavage at the dinner table. Want to go even more casual? Go for layering a tank under a boyfriend blazer and add a statement necklace to add a little fun.
Aqua dress
The perfect cozy alternative to an unattractive holiday sweater is Aqua’s Cashmere Cowlneck dress that looks perfect paired with a pair of opaque tights and boots. If you’re looking for a more dressed up look, try a dress like Diane von Furstenburg’s ¾ sleeve silk Dot-Print dress and you’ll look put together and not crazy for wearing a strapless dress when it’s 50 degrees out.
